Whether you want to work during a flight, pass the time watching the latest Hollywood blockbuster, or simply continue gaming online with your loved ones “on the ground,” Austrian Airlines’ parent company, the Lufthansa Group, is setting a milestone in premium customer experience with the gradual introduction of free, high-speed Internet access for all guests.
The rollout will begin this year, with all 850 aircraft in the group to be gradually equipped with high-speed internet access by 2029, both within the existing fleet and on all new aircraft.
The partner for this comprehensive upgrade is the leading provider Starlink, which offers the fastest in-flight internet connection in the industry today. The system is based on satellite technology and enables online use in the air just like on the ground.
For Austrian Airlines, this means that in future, the entire A320 family and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner will fly with Starlink technology. The new internet service will therefore be free of charge on short-, medium- and long-haul flights for all status customers, customers with Travel ID registration or Miles & More customers – across all travel classes.
Further details on the upgrade schedule and when which aircraft with the red-white-red tail fin and Starlink high-speed internet will be able to take off will be announced in the course of the year.
