Annual Result 2025: Austrian Airlines achieves solid financial results again in 2025 and collaboratively sets the course for a future-oriented air traffic hub

  • Annual result for 2025: Adjusted EBIT of 81 million euros
  • Once again top marks for punctuality, customer satisfaction and brand strength
  • Around 15 million passengers in 2025 in total
  • 2026 marked by dialogue and shared responsibility for a long-term growth strategy for Austria as an aviation hub
  • CEO Annette Mann: “We are among the leaders in terms of operations and are consistently in the black, but with a margin of 3,2 % we are around 50% below the average for European airlines. In order to secure investments and remain competitive with other hubs and airlines, we need higher profitability and relief for the location.  We are continuing to work tirelessly to make our own structures more efficient. At the same time, we are focusing on shaping a competitive aviation hub.”

2025 brought a series of geopolitical tensions and economic uncertainties that had a significant impact on the day-to-day operations of airlines. 2026 so far has also been marked by global political events and extreme weather conditions at the Vienna hub – developments that once again highlight how crucial resilience is for airlines. With total revenue of 2.541 billion euros, adjusted EBIT was a solid 81 million euros, or a margin of 3.2%, but well below the European average margin of approximately 6.8% forecast by IATA for 2025.

The general conditions at Austria as an aviation location continued to prove challenging. “We are among the leaders in terms of operations and are consistently in the black, but with a margin of 3,2%, we are around 50% below the average for European airlines. In order to secure investments and remain competitive with other hubs and airlines, we need higher profitability and relief for the location. We are continuing to work on making our own structures more efficient. At the same time, we are focusing on shaping a competitive aviation hub. To this end, we are working with the relevant aviation partners, in particular Vienna Airport and politics, to develop joint solutions that will lead the location into a successful future and enable sustainable growth”, emphasizes Austrian Airlines CEO Annette Mann.

Annual results in detail

In 2025, Austrian Airlines’ annual revenue grew from 2.457 billion euro in the previous year to 2.541 billion Euro (+3 per cent). As of 31 December 2025, Austrian Airlines employed 6,054 people (-1 per cent). The number of seat kilometres offered rose by 4 per cent to 28.614 billion in the course of 2025. At 81.6 per cent, the load factor was slightly higher than in 2024, up +0.3 percentage points. 99.3 per cent of Austrian Airlines’ flight departed on schedule in the previous year, an increase of +0.7 percentage points.

Full focus on further improvements for passengers

Austrian Airlines achieved significant improvements in key areas within its own sphere of influence in the previous year. The airline with the red-white-red tail fin became the third most punctual airline in Europe in 2025. Passenger satisfaction ratings also improved further in 2025, as did Austrian’s brand strength in its home market of Austria. At the prestigious Skytrax Awards, the Austrian Airlines team received the title of “Best Airline Staff Service in Europe” in 2025, as it did in 2023. In addition, Austrian Airlines cabin crews were also voted #1 in Europe and among the top 20 worldwide.

At the same time, the Lufthansa Group and Austrian Airlines are investing heavily in the future at their Vienna location. Just a few days ago, the shell construction for a total of 5,000 square metres of new lounge space at Vienna Airport was handed over, which is scheduled to go into operation in 2027 with the terminal expansion of the airport. At the same time, preparations for the renewal and expansion of Premium Economy Class are in full swing for next winter. The presentation of the new uniforms is also planned for 2027, just in time for the company’s 70th anniversary. Apart from minor adjustments, the appearance of the current uniforms has remained unchanged for 30 years.

The flight schedule has also been revised for the upcoming important summer months. Austrian Airlines will be flying to a total of seven new destinations from the 2026 summer schedule onwards, including the trendy destination of Ponta Delgada in the Azores, as well as Bilbao and Alicante in Spain. There is also an exciting new insider destination, namely Ohrid in North Macedonia. And passengers who shy away from the heat also have something new to discover: Bergen on the west coast of Norway invites you to enjoy a ‘coolcation’.

Austrian Airlines welcomes three more Dreamliners to its fleet in 2026

By far the largest investments at Austrian Airlines are in the area of its fleet. The rollover of Austrian Airlines’ long-haul fleet, which began in 2024, will continue in 2026. According to the current status, a total of three Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners are to be delivered to Austrian Airlines this year. Parallel to the work on the additional Dreamliners, work is also underway on the decommissioning of the three Boeing 767s and six Boeing 777s. “We are very pleased to welcome our third Dreamliner to the fleet in a few months. The aircraft will enter scheduled service for Austrian Airlines on 1 June. Until then, work will be carried out on the cabin and the aircraft will be given its Austrian livery. From June onwards, it will initially be used primarily on the route to New York-Newark”, explains Austrian Airlines COO Stefan-Kenan Scheib.

Austrian Airlines’ long-haul fleet will grow from 11 to 12 aircraft. Ten more Dreamliners will be added to the current two in the fleet by the end of 2028.

A rollover has also been underway in the short- and medium-haul fleet since the end of last year. The Embraer aircraft are being phased out, while the Airbus fleet at Austrian Airlines is growing by six Airbus A320neo aircraft. Two Embraer aircraft have already left the fleet. The first additional Airbus aircraft are expected this year. In addition, older Airbus models will also be gradually replaced by new ones in the coming years. Austrian Airlines is thus currently undergoing the most comprehensive fleet rollover in its history.

Outlook for the current financial year

The resilience that Austrian Airlines has once again demonstrated in the first few months of 2026 underlines its position as a reliable hub carrier at Vienna Airport. However, in order to ensure sustainable growth, jobs at the location and long-term investments, strategic foresight is needed with all partners to create a future-proof and competitive air traffic hub in Austria.

“We are working intensively and in partnership with politicians and all key system partners at the location to develop sustainable solutions that contribute to our common goals and further strengthen the competitiveness and connectivity of the location”, emphasizes Austrian Airlines CEO Annette Mann. She continues: “In addition, we want to maintain our top ratings in passenger satisfaction and operational key figures such as punctuality in 2026 and significantly improve our financial results.”
