- SAFt microdrink provides information and support on the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF)
- Exclusive cooperation between Austrian Airlines and waterdrop® raises awareness for SAF and brings three fruity beverage drops on board
- SAFt available from 1 May on short and medium-haul flights with Austrian Melangerie offer
Austrian Airlines is taking off with a new product: together with the Viennese company waterdrop®, the Austrian airline is offering SAFt, a refreshing microdrink designed to raise awareness about the use of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAFs). The SAFt product, designed exclusively for Austrian by waterdrop®, offers passengers three different beverage drops and information about Sustainable Aviation Fuels. In addition to three refreshments in different flavours, every passenger who chooses SAFt invests in a litre of Sustainable Aviation Fuel that will be used on future flights. Compared to fossil fuel, SAF reduces CO2 emissions by around 80 per cent.
SAFt combines revitalising enjoyment and responsible use of resources with a deliberate play on words. The product emphasises the responsibility of aviation, which sees increasing the available quantities of Sustainable Aviation Fuel as one of the keys to transforming the industry. SAFt can be purchased on Austrian short and medium-haul flights with the Melangerie range. The three cubes included can be consumed on board with water or taken along for the onward journey.
The three flavours – Lemon Iced Tea, Passion Fruit and Berry Electrolyte – offer a sugar-free beverage alternative for Austrian passengers. The microdrinks can be easily dissolved in still or sparkling water – directly on board in a glass, cup or bottle, or later at home.
SAFt is available as part of the Austrian Melangerie summer range from 1 May to the end of October 2025 – at a price of €3.90 individually or in a combination package with Vöslauer mineral water for €5.90.
SAF is a decisive technological key to more sustainable flying and essential for the energy transition in aviation. The SAF currently available and used by Austrian Airlines is produced from biogenic residues, for example from used cooking oils. Over its entire life cycle, SAF made from biogenic residues has a CO2 footprint that is around 80 per cent lower than that of conventional paraffin made from fossil crude oil. As a drop-in fuel, SAF is compatible with fossil paraffin and can be easily blended with it. Before being transported to the airport, SAF is mixed with fossil aviation fuel (blending). Individual flights are not refuelled with SAF during regular flight operations.
