Austrian Airlines announces return of it Montreal service

• Vienna-Montreal resumes on October 1 in partnership with Air Canada
• Fully vaccinated travelers allowed entry into Canada since 7 September

As of 1 October, Austrian Airlines will welcome back the Vienna-Montreal route to its long-haul portfolio. Austria’s national airline previously operated the route from April 2019 to March 2020 before it was suspended due to the Corona pandemic. The largest French-speaking city in North America will be served year-round three times a week by a Boeing 767 with a seating capacity of 211 seats. With the resumption, the excellent cooperation with Air Canada, Canada’s largest airline, continues to expand. Since mid-July, Star Alliance partner Air Canada has been operating a codeshare flight with Austrian Airlines from Vienna to Toronto three times a week. Thanks to the partnership with Air Canada, Austrian Airlines customers will benefit from excellent transfer options in Montreal and Toronto in addition to the Vienna hub, which is ideally located especially for connections to South East Europe.

“After more than a year and a half, we can add Montreal to our destination portfolio again. We are delighted to be able to continue our cooperation with Air Canada and to strengthen our home base in Vienna,” says Austrian Airlines Chief Commercial Officer Michael Trestl.

“It is with great excitement that we welcome Austrian Airlines back to Montreal. Vienna is a unique city to visit during the winter months, with its beautiful palaces and Christmas markets. In addition, the long-standing relationship between the two carriers allows passengers to connect seamlessly in Vienna to key destinations in Europe and the Middle East”, says Mark Galardo, Senior Vice President, Network Planning and Revenue Management at Air Canada.

The connections of Austrian Airlines and Air Canada between Vienna and Canada are again increasingly relevant for both tourists and business travelers. Since 7 September, fully vaccinated travelers with a PCR test can enter Canada without any further restrictions. “We are very pleased that Canada is setting a good example in North America and facilitating tourist travel. Thanks to this regulation, we can again connect people around the globe, regardless of whether they are business travelers, families or travelers who want to discover new territories with us”, says CCO Michael Trestl.
