Due to high demand: Austrian Airlines increases capacities for flights to Crete

• Top destination Greece: Heraklion demand has tripled since May
• Austrian Airlines increases capacity with a wide-body aircraft on seven consecutive Saturdays from 24 July – flights bookable now
• CCO Michael Trestl: “We are constantly adapting our offer to the Austrian people’s desire to travel”

In the upcoming summer holidays, Greece is one of the most booked destinations, followed by Spain and Italy. To date, Austrian Airlines has recorded a total of 96,000 passengers on flights to Greece for the months of July and August. The frontrunners are Crete, followed by Rhodes and Kos. The load factor on the flights is currently around 80 percent. “The Austrians desire to travel is increasing every day. In order to be able to meet the travel needs of our passengers, we are constantly adapting our offer”, reports Austrian Airlines CCO Michael Trestl. “In particular, the booking figures for flights to Heraklion on Crete tripled between mid-May and the end of June. We are responding to the increased demand and are increasing capacity on this route”, says the Austrian Airlines CCO. In addition to the current daily flights to Heraklion, a long-haul aircraft of the type Boeing 777 will be deployed every Saturday from 24 July to 4 September inclusive.

The deployment of the largest aircraft type in the Austrian Airlines fleet will enable the airline to transport around 100 more passengers per Saturday flight on the route to Heraklion. On all other days, the route will be served by an aircraft from the Airbus A320 family. The OS9001 flight to Heraklion with a Boeing 777 departs Vienna on 24 July at 8:10 a.m., landing is scheduled at 11:40 a.m (local time). The return flight OS9002 will depart at 13:20 a.m., arriving in Vienna at 14:55 p.m. The Boeing 777 will then operate on seven consecutive Saturdays up to and including 4 September. The flights can be booked now at austrian.com.

Austrian Airlines advises passengers to prepare for their trip
As many holiday countries have different entry regulations and these can also change at short notice, Austrian Airlines recommends that you inform yourself about the regulations of the respective destination country before travelling. In Greece, for example, online registration is mandatory at least 24 hours before entry. Furthermore, a negative antigen test (maximum 48 hours old) or a negative PCR test (maximum 72 hours old) from a testing laboratory is currently required for all travelers aged 12 and over. If full vaccination protection is available at least 14 days prior to entry, no test is required. The same applies to convalescents if either an official certificate of convalescence not older than 9 months or a positive PCR test with a convalescence note (older than 2, but not older than 9 months) is available.

With the digital document verification, which is offered for Greece and twelve other countries, passengers can upload all necessary documents on the Austrian Airlines website before travelling and have them checked for completeness and validity. Regardless of this, passengers must have the original documents with them on the trip.
