Austrian Airlines Traffic Result July 2011: 2.7 percent increase in passenger volume

• July: With 1,179,900 passengers in July, Austrian Airlines is up 2.7 percent on last year
• January to July: With more than 6.2 million passengers carried by 2 percent up on last year

Austrian Airlines carried 1,179,900 passengers in July 2011. Therewith, Austrian Airlines has had a passenger increase of 2.7 percent in comparison to July last year in spite of the crises in the Middle East. The route to Japan is recovering slowly. The average passenger load factor, at 82.1 percent, was 0.5 percentage points below the figure for the same month last year. The capacity measured in available seat kilometres (ASK) rose by 4.7 percent. The figure for revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) rose by 4.1 percent.

In the period from January to July 2011, the number of passengers carried rose by 2 percent compared to previous year’s figure: 6.3 million passengers flew with Austrian Airlines. The load factor fell by 3 percentage points to 72.6 percent. The capacity measured in available seat kilometres (ASK) rose by 4.4 percent. The figure for revenue passenger kilometres (RPK) rose by 0.3 percent.

The Members of the Austrian Airlines Executive Board, Andreas Bierwirth and Peter Malanik said the following: “We feel the effects of the crises in Japan and in the Middle East. But in Japan, the demand for air travel recovers. The situation improves”.

Europe
In July 2011, around 881,600 passengers flew with Austrian Airlines within Europe. This is 4.1 percent more passengers than last year. The load factor fell by 0.7 percentage points to 78.4 percent. Austrian Airlines increased the ASK by 5.3 percent, the RPK rose by 4.4 percent.

In the period from January to July 2011, around 5 million passengers flew with Austrian Airlines within Europe. This is 3.6 percent more passengers than last year. The load factor rose by 0.7 percentage points to 70.1 percent. The figure for ASK rose by 3.1 percent, and the one for RPK by 0.4 percent.

Intercontinental
In July 2011, the number of passengers carried on intercontinental flights rose by 1.6 percent to 172,500. The load factor, which is 85.1 percent, was 0.5 percentage points up the figure of the previous year. The route to Japan is recovering during the summer months. Austrian Airlines increased its ASK by 6.1 percent. The figure for RPK rose by 6.7 percent.

Austrian Airlines carried 948,600 passengers in the period from January to July 2011, or 0.7 percent less than last year. The load factor fell by 6.5 percentage points to 74.5 percent. The crisis in Japan and the Middle East are having an effect here. Austrian Airlines increased its ASK by 9.1 percent. The figure for RPK rose by 0.4 percent.

Charter
As a result of the capacity restriction set by the EU, Austrian Airlines reduced its ASK in the charter business segment.

In July 2011, passenger volume stood at 125,700, which is 4.2 percent less than the previous year. The load factor fell by 3.8 percentage points to 82.9 percent. Austrian Airlines reduced the ASK by 2.9 percent. The figure for RPK fell by 7.2 percent.

In the period from January to July 2011, Austrian Airlines carried 370.300 passengers in the Charter segment. This figure is 10.4 percent lower than last year. The load factor fell by 2.5 percentage points to 74.9 percent. The figure for ASK fell by 18.4 percent, while the one for RPK fell by 21 percent.

Austrian Airlines
