Service, Product, Awards
• 23,000 bids already received for long-haul flights within one year
• Low-priced opportunity for Business Class travel with the ”Smart Upgrade“
Austrian Airlines is expanding its “Smart Upgrade” offering. Effective immediately passengers will also have the chance to purchase a seat in the Austrian Business Class on all scheduled European flights by means of an auction. Passengers submit their bids online and will find out 72 hours before departure whether they have been given a Business Class seat. In order to participate in the bidding process, the passengers only require a previously booked Economy Class ticket for the particular flight.
“We have received more than 23,000 bids for a Business Class upgrade on long-haul flights within a period of just one year. In order to fulfill the wishes of our customers, we are now expanding this service to all scheduled flights starting on July 1, 2014”, says Karsten Benz, Chief Commercial Officer of Austrian Airlines.
In the coming months Austrian Airlines intends to introduce other product innovations when it comes to supplementary services such as “à la carte Menu” or the “red lounge”.
Austrian Airlines is Austria’s largest carrier and operates a global route network of round 130 destinations. That route network is particularly dense in Central and Eastern Europe with 41 destinations. Thanks to its favourable geographical location at the heart of Europe, the company’s hub at Vienna International Airport is the ideal gateway between East and West. Austrian Airlines is part of the Lufthansa Group, Europe’s largest airline group, and a member of the Star Alliance, the first global alliance of international airlines. The flight operations of the Austrian Airlines Group have been bundled at its 100% subsidiary Tyrolean Airways since 1st July, 2012.
