• Austrian Airlines transported 16.5 percent more passengers in June
• Passenger growth particularly strong in Europe traffic segment: up by 24.4 percent
The Austrian Airlines Group carried 1.051 million passengers in June 2010. This means Austrian Airlines carried a total of 16.5 percent more passengers in June 2010 than in June 2009. The flight load factor rose by 6.3 percentage points to 78.7 percent. We increased capacity measured in Available Seat Kilometers (ASK) by 2.9 percent. Demand measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometers (RPK) rose by 11.9 percent.
The members of the Austrian Airlines Executive Board, Peter Malanik and Andreas Bierwirth, said the following: “Our new active market strategy is starting to work. We now have to continue with implementing our programme of restructuring.”
In the period from January to June 2010, the number of passengers carried, at around 5 million, was 8.8 percent above the previous year’s figure. The load factor rose by 3.7 percentage points to 74.2 percent. We reduced our ASK by 1.1 percent. RPK rose by 4.1 percent.
Europe
In June, around 816,600 passengers flew with Austrian Airlines within Europe. This means 24.4 percent more passengers flew with us compared to the same month last year. The load factor rose by 6.3 percentage points to 76.2 percent. The figure for ASK rose by 13.5 percent. RPK rose by 23.6 percent.
In the period from January to June 2010, we carried around 3.9 million passengers in Europe. This means we are 13.6 percent up on the previous year. The load factor rose by 2.1 percentage points to 67.5 percent. The figure for ASK rose by 8.9 percent, and that for RPK by 12.3 percent.
Intercontinental
The number of passengers carried in the Intercontinental segment rose by 14.5 percent in June, to 149,200. We basically kept our ASK steady, with a 0.1 percent change, and improved the load factor by 9.3 percentage points to 81.7 percent. RPK rose by 12.9 percent.
In the period from January to June 2010, we carried 785,100 passengers, the equivalent of an increase of 5.6 percent on the same period last year. The load factor improved by 7.2 percentage points to 80.3 percent. We reduced our ASK by 4.4 percent. RPK rose by 5.1 percent.
Charter
The new market strategy of Austrian Airlines provides for us to use more of our available capacity for scheduled business. This is leading to a reduction in charter business in 2010. We carried 85,800 passengers in the Charter segment in June, 26 percent fewer than in the comparison month last year. The load factor fell by 5.4 percentage points to 75 percent. We reduced our ASK by 20.7 percent. The figure for RPK fell by 26 percent.
In the period from January to June 2010, we carried 281,600 passengers in the Charter segment. This figure is 27.7 percent lower than last year. The load factor fell by 4 percentage points to 74.1 percent. We reduced our ASK by 25.9 percent. The figure for RPK fell by 29.7 percent.
